CAFE-III: Hyundai, Tata, M&M lobby against incentives to small cars; Maruti hits back
New Delhi: The car wars are heating up with Hyundai Motor India (HMIL), MG Motor India, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and Tata Motors lobbying against Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) on the upcoming CAFE-III norms. All these original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) have dashed off a letter to the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), against incentivising smaller cars. “Relaxing CAFE-III norms for small cars with an unladen weight of 909 Kg, which make up constitutes more than 15 per cent of the total passenger car sales of 4.3 million in FY25, undermines India’s efforts to reduce crude oil imports, which have already risen by 4.2 per cent to 242.4 million tonnes in FY2025, amounting $161 billion,” the letter said. Tata Motors and MG Motor India did not respond to queries sent by businessline, while M&M declined to comment. MHI officials also did not reply to the queries sent.

Practically polished: Renault Triber
The Renault Triber has perfected the art of being the ‘mini Swiss-Army knife.’ It’s a sub-four-metre magic trick. Seven seats? Done. Need a six-seater? Easy. Want a spacious five-seater with a boot big enough for a weekend’s worth of luggage space? A few clicks and tugs, and it shapeshifts without complaints. Now, the 2025 facelift sharpens the blade, addressing the one area that mattered most: image and safety.
Tata Sierra vs competitors: How Tata’s new SUV appears bigger than rivals?
Tata Sierra is certainly one of the most exciting SUVs launched in India in 2025. The tata Sierra not only brings back the iconic nomenclature from the last century. Tata Motors has positioned the Tata Sierra as a premium SUV priced very competitively. Available at a starting price of ₹11.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the Tata Sierra has blended the original model's design philosophy with modern touch and advanced features.
Mahindra XEV 9S vs Mahindra XEV 9e: How are they different from each other
Mahindra has launched its much awaited electric SUV XEV 9S in India, at a starting price of ₹19.95 lakh (ex-showroom). This comes as the third electric SUV from the automaker's Born Electric series. The Mahindra XEV 9S sits in between the BE 6 and XEV 9e. While the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e are more focused on sportiness, the Mahindra XEV 9S is a more family oriented electric SUV. Also, it has a broader variant spread. Being the first-ever all-electric three-row seven-seater electric SUV, the Mahindra XEV 9S is essentially the all electric iteration of the mighty Mahindra XUV 700.

India is paying for subsidies without knowing what they deliver
As headline numbers go, India’s subsidies for promoting electric mobility are extremely modest. The Union Budget for 2025-26 allocated an estimated ₹4.26 trillion for various subsidies, of which food and fertilizer accounted for 87%, and the LPG subsidy another 3%. Of the remaining ₹42,000-odd crore, electric mobility subsidies accounted for ₹5,322 crore.

The Gentle Giant: Kawasaki Ninja 1100SX
Not all big machines are intimidating. The Kawasaki Ninja 1100SX, with its sharp lines, muscular fuel tank and classic Ninja attitude, proves just that. At a glance you’d expect a fire-breathing, litre-class machine that demands an iron wrist and monk-like discipline. Instead, the big Ninja opens with a bow, not a roar… at least, until 4,000 rpm. Below that mark, the 1100SX is so calm that I began to suspect Kawasaki accidentally mixed chamomile tea with the coolant. But with a generous twist of the throttle, the inline-four breathes and it suddenly remembers its lineage. The mask lifts, the genes wake up, and the bike snaps into a purposeful stride that reminds us that this is still a Ninja.

Honda Shine 100 DX review: Shines bright as a commuter
If you are looking at pulling the trigger on either one of the Shine 100 models, the DX would be our recommendation for three primary reasons. First, tubeless tyres are unquestionably easier to mend a puncture on. Second, the new fuel tank gives you more range and also looks and feels more substantial when you’re riding the bike. Last but not least, the uncluttered and well-laid-out digital display is a good upgrade over the base 100’s analogue dials in terms of the information shown.
